Talk about a special event that you do not want to miss. This is your chance to experience anything and everything Scottish. All of the activities at the Scottish games expressly demonstrate the Scottish style. You may be looking to check out the kind of heavyweight games that you may have seen on television. Always an awesome view for the spectator, this will be a chance to check out the Olympic type competition of Scottish athletic sporting events. But beyond that, you will also be able to watch the mastery of Scottish music. This event is a feast for the eyes and ears. The music featured will provide you with a very unique experience as you will be able to listen to over 25 bagpipe bands. The sound will echo across the scenic marches and make you travel back in time to the 11th and 12th centuries. Add in some Scottish country dancing and fiddling as well as Celtic rock bands dressed in kilts and you will quickly see why will be immersed in the Scottish experience.
About the Games
Known as one of the "nicest and friendliest games around," you can count on there being constant entertainment going on all day and all around you. The variety of competitions that will be on display actually originated in Scotland and they include feats of super strength like tossing the caber or better known to modern day visitors, a telephone pole. There will also be heavy athletic activities like the Sheaf Toss, the Stone of Strength, and other amazing feats. To offset the heavy activities with some more artistic expressions, you will want to check out the Scottish dances which are ancient expressions of both personal and social emotions.
Don't worry, the festival will also be very family friendly and include some great children's activities. There will be games, crafts and culture for ages 12 and under. The kids also really love the Border Collie demonstration as well as the appearance by Ronald McDonald. Throw in a beer garden, rugby demonstration, Celtic nations tent, Scottish Merchandise and door prizes and you have a great time had by all. And there is also some special music by specifically Scottish bands.
Plenty of Attractions
One of the most exciting moments during the gathering is the massed bands marching in step and entering the field for the opening ceremonies. If you come looking for your Scottish roots, no problem, you have come to the right place. There will be a genealogy tent setup or you can visit any of the 40 plus clans in attendance and start down the path to discovery. There is always one honored clan each year. So, as you can see, this is definitely an event that is worth your time and effort to go and see.
Of course, whenever you decide to take in an event like this, your thoughts should always come around to transportation. How are you and your friends going to get to the gathering. We realize that you could just drive their in a carpooling fashion but think about how much trouble this can be. First of all, you will be fighting traffic the whole way because everyone is headed in the same direction. Also, you need to all find a parking space and then try and meet up somewhere after parking. You also will have to pay for parking. And if you have an libations while at the gathering, you run the risk of getting a DUI or even worse an accident and getting hurt. Why not solve all of these problems by booking a really cool party bus.
