Gen Con was founded in 1968 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and is now the best-known and attended convention for hobby gaming. In 2017, it even celebrated it's 50th convention! Trade Day

If you happen to be a manufacturer, publisher, retailer, educator, and/or press, you'll the typically sold out event of Trade Day. Enjoy multiple seminars and networking with fellow professionals in a relaxed setting, and learn more about such topics as, "Increase K-12 Student's Academic & Social Achievement with Board & Car Games," "Hidden Secrets of the Internet," and "Buyer's Training Session and Location Negotiations." The first trade day started in 2007, and has been a major hit ever since. Lately, it has been completely sold out to more than 550 educators, librarians, and retailers attending.

Gen Con grew out of a love for war gaming that was popular in the 1960's, but now includes all categories of hobby gaming and family entertainment. The primary gaming categories that you typically find at this convention are traditional and collectible card games, board games, role-playing games, live action role-playing games, miniature war games, computer and electronic games, and hybrid games. While Gen Con doesn't promote gambling of any kind, they allow no-stakes popular casino games such as poker.
