Summerfest • Milwaukee WI

Earning its spot as Guinness's Largest Music Festival in the World, Milwaukee's Summerfest is a must-visit in Milwaukee. Huge names have graced these stages — Linkin Park, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, The Doors and even Bob Dylan have all made appearances. Attendance at this festival is higher than the population of most cities. In 2014 alone, over 850,00 people participated in the event.

While the music is by far the main attraction, Summerfest offers plenty of entertainment. With dozens of food vendors and Milwaukee's own restaurants, you're never too far from a great bite to eat. Opening night is also christened by the Big Bang, a huge fireworks show over the Lake Michigan's lakefront.

Music

Being one of the largest music festivals in the world, if not the largest, expect to see high-quality acts at Summerfest. The festival takes place all throughout the city on 11 different stages. The main attraction however are the headliners who play in the Marcus Amphitheater. Summerfest is always headlined by very famous artists. In 2015, the headliners were Linkin Park, Keith Urban, Kendrick Lamar and others. So expect a very diverse lineup in the years to come.

The city also puts on a show for its local artists. Make sure you visit the Tiki Hut to see these acts. Inside a temperature-controlled environment, this venue is great for a break from the hustle and bustle of the festival while still partaking in the event. The music here is just as varied, with electronic music and acoustic shows being the main acts here.

Food

Food and drinks are another focus of Summerfest, due in part to the sweltering summers the city is known for. During the event, restaurants all around town come up with new and exciting items to woo their part of the marketshare. Typically, these items have a street-fair hint to them, like Flannery's chips on a stick or cone sandwiches. Since the restaurants are usually packed during Summerfest, be on the lookout for unique food stands.
